The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has created a worthy fundraising program by offering a stamp competition. Stamp submissions were required to be from a list of local species that are threatened. After some research, I was drawn to Bombus Franklini (Franklin’s Bumble Bee), over which there is some question over whether it may already be extinct - the last time it was observed in the wild was 2006 (and that was a single bee). The entries will be judged Saturday, November 3rd, and the winner will be announced at the one-day exhibition of all the entries from 1pm-4pm at Duck Pond Cellars in Dundee, Oregon. Duck Pond will be unveiling a new wine from their “Conservation Cuvee” series and will donate $5 to the ODFW Conservation Program for each bottle purchased.
